Wheatfields

This is pinched from Cape Town Photographic Society

Now is the time to go and shoot the wheatfields.

1. On the N2 to Caledon just after Botriver turn left to Villiersdorp. Follow this road up to the turn off to the right on the Boontjieskraal road. Travel 300 metres on this gravel road, turn back and return to the N2. You will see harvested wheatfields and you will be able to shoot lines and lines and colour and colour of the wheat fields. Just further up (about 100 metres) from the Boontjieskraal turnoff you will be able to shoot the wheat fields on the right hand side.

2. On the N2 towards Caledon go to the Dassiesfontein farm stall. Take the dirt road on the right hand side of the shop and carry on for about 10 km. Then turn back. (Dassiesfontein is great for breakfast or lunch and just to browse).

On the N2 before you reach Caledon:

3. Turn to the left onto the road to Greyton. After about 3 km turn left onto the tarred road that becomes a dirt road after about 50 metres. You may see harvested wheat fields. Turn back after about 8 km.

On the N2 go past Caledon :

4. About 16 km past Caledon take the turnoff to the right onto the Krige road. It is tarred but later becomes a gravel road. This Krige road connects onto the Caledon/Bredasdorp road after 16 km. Carry on for about 8 to 10 km and turn back (turn back when you have reached the farm Ysbrandskop with the blue roofs).

5. Try the Jongensfontein (or is it the Jongensklip ?) road also leading off the N2 after you have passed Caledon.

6. You do not have to go early morning to shoot the wheatfields , but you may be able to shoot colourful landscapes of the wheat fields at daybreak.
